The 40th Anniversary of the HK Prize

The Hong Kong Prize recognizes and celebrates outstanding scientific research achievements by awarding scientific researchers in Hong Kong for their achievements, innovative applications, commercialization or service to society. It aims to inspire future generations of scientists in Hong Kong to remain committed to innovation, build on strengths, serve their nation and make positive contributions worldwide.

Hong Kong must embrace a culture of scientific inquiry in order to remain an international hub for innovation and technology, so its culture should support scientific exploration while encouraging forward-looking scientists. The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize administered by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation provides such a prize, encouraging scientific communities, society at large and young generations alike to have an insatiable curiosity for everything that surrounds them.

This year marks HK Prize’s 40th anniversary and it is an historic milestone. Over its four decades of operation, the Mark Six lottery has raised an astonishing total of over HK$10 billion for charity – becoming one of the world’s leading charity lotteries.

BOCHK will continue its support of this prestigious award over time to foster scientific exploration and innovation, boost Hong Kong’s competitive science and technology landscape, and offer young researchers an opportunity to maximize their potential.

Hong Kong’s sports industry has long been a powerhouse in global sport, drawing top athletes to its high-quality training facilities and competitive atmosphere. Over time, however, its significance has grown even further with new events popping up as well as increasing popularity for electronic gaming.

Last year alone saw over 100 eSports tournaments hosted in Hong Kong with record participation figures. As interest in eSports grows, Hong Kong could quickly become an international eSports hub.

BOCHK has always been an enthusiastic backer of Hong Kong’s sporting industry, partnering with both the HK SAR Government and Principal Sponsor, the Swire Group to provide significant funding. As a result, HKSAR boasts one of the world’s most vibrant and successful sporting environments.

This prize aims not to honor only the best work by young Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine; instead it seeks to recognize excellence in medical research conducted by young Fellows of that academy. Winners will each receive a cash prize of HKD 2 Million as well as certificates and trophies; no more than five persons or teams per year will be awarded this honor; nominations should be submitted before February 28th and late nominations won’t be accepted; selection will be done by an expert panel and results announced in May 2022.
