The HK Prize and Other Awards

HK Prize is an award given to winners of competitions or events with the purpose of encouraging people to explore new ideas and make a difference in their communities. Each recipient of an hk Prize is announced at an awards ceremony and presented with a cheque as recognition of their work; there may also be different categories awarded such as business, science, sports or literature prizes in addition to social causes like education or environmentalism.

The South China Morning Post won 12 awards at the Hong Kong News Awards 2024, including Best Scoop for their investigation of unauthorised structures added to luxury properties. Senior reporter Edith Lin and news editor Jeffie Lam received this honor for their coverage of this issue which eventually led to enforcement action from government authorities. Other reporters who won prizes at this awards show included Kahon Chan, Natalie Wong Lilian Cheng and Yvette Yip – with the latter two winning the Newspaper Society Best Local Daily Newspaper award due to their coverage of a Dubai prince’s decision not opening an office here.

Casino giant MGM and Art Basel Hong Kong have joined forces to launch a contemporary art prize, and Shin Min’s installation Ew! There’s Hair in the Food! has been unveiled as the inaugural winner. On display until 30 March in Discoveries section of Art Basel fair. Her piece depicts female workers in service and corporate sectors and their struggle to maintain identity while working under pressure environments.

Standard Chartered Marathon Challenge, permanent Hong Kong residents who finish in the top three men and women categories in each age category will receive an incentive prize of HK$10,000 to enhance their running experience and encourage them to continue to challenge themselves.

Hong Kong athletes who win gold at the Olympics will now receive cash incentives of HK$6 million instead of just HK$5 million as an incentive, up from just HK$5 million at the 2020 Games. This move aims to further increase Hong Kong athletes’ competitive edge on a global scale while furthering Hong Kong’s reputation as a leading international development hub.
