The Sidney Prize recognizes and rewards outstanding papers written by Harvard Law students on issues pertaining to animal law and/or policy, which must be prepared as part of a course, seminar, clinic, graduate degree project, independent study program or independent study project and must be original in nature. These prizes honor Harvard professor Sidney Louis Wagman ’51 for their dedication and scholarship and bear his name.
The 2024 Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize is now open! Supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, this award seeks outstanding short fiction of up to 3000 words that loosely explores travel themes. Imaginative, creative and literary interpretations are welcomed and expected! The winner will receive $5000 along with their short story being published in Overland along with two runners-up pieces; both winners and runners-up will also be offered discounted subscriptions to Overland (four print copies, daily online magazine access plus invitations to subscriber events opportunities and giveaways).
Established in 2007, the Judith Wright Poetry Prize honors exceptional poetry written by new and emerging poets. Gareth Morgan was selected from eight shortlisted poets; his poem, entitled ‘are You Ready?” was described by judges as an inspiring call for artists and writers alike to create something radical that defies precarity and professionalisation.
Mercer University Sidney Lanier Prize recognizes writers who continue the rich traditions of southern literature in drama, fiction or poetry. The prize honors Sidney Lanier (an 18th-century Georgia poet known for works like The Song of the Chattahoochee and Marshes of Glynn). This prize is administered by Mercer Center for Southern Studies.
Since its creation, the Hillman Prize has honored investigative journalism that exhibits deep reporting and storytelling expertise for public good. The prize honors journalist Sidney Hillman and his family’s dedication to upholding journalism’s highest values.
Sydney Film Festival (SFF) is Australia’s most acclaimed independent film festival and has long provided filmmakers with vital momentum. Juried independently by an expert jury, SFF offers three competitive categories – Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film awards. The Documentary Australia Award for Australian Documentaries offers a cash prize of $20,000 and Academy Award eligibility to its winning film. Meanwhile, Event Cinemas Rising Talent Award honours an emerging Australian short film director with a cash prize of $7,000. The SFF Screenwriter’s Award recognises an outstanding NSW-based writer for their screen work.
