Starting in 2025-2027, the NUS Singapore History Prize has received a double increase in endowment as well as a new Arts and Multimedia category that accepts any historical work that engages deeply with Singapore history across any form or medium including film, theatre performances and exhibitions. Nominations won’t be limited to specific fields, themes or periods within Singapore’s history – rather the prize panel will open the admission window as widely as possible for initial nominations.
The 2019 NUS Singapore History Prize will feature an expanded judging panel, comprising experts in humanities and social sciences as well as representatives from National Heritage Board. Furthermore, Conservation International (CI) will partner with them for the first time to leverage their global network of partners committed to highlighting nature’s benefits for humanity.
Apart from these two categories, other prizes exist to recognize good work being done in Singapore. For example, Harvard Prize Book for Singapore recognises pre-tertiary students who have shown extraordinary care for others in their communities; these individuals may have gone beyond their duty or inspired others within it to help others – both qualities recognized with this prize.
Christopher Bathurst Prize was established in 2010 to honour Christopher Bathurst QC who passed away. It is jointly administered by Singapore Academy of Law and Fountain Court Chambers to promote research into legal history while paying respects to his spirit.
Singapore boasts other prestigious prizes as well, such as the President’s Science and Technology Awards (PSTA), which recognize scientists who push the limits of scientific knowledge with their groundbreaking discoveries. The Singapore Government presents this honorific award annually in order to acknowledge scientists and researchers for their contributions towards upholding research excellence while strengthening Singapore’s pool of scientific talent.
Singapore is also home to the Asia Pacific Regional Office (WIPO-APO), established in 2000 and serving as regional headquarters of WIPO in this part of Southeast Asia. Established as an operational support and strategic resource center for regional offices such as Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines Thailand and Vietnam based out of Singapore – WIPO APO’s main goal being providing strategic support and operational guidance within these nations and more specifically within Singapore itself.
The WIPO-APO, part of the United Nations Intellectual Property Organization, is dedicated to protecting intellectual property worldwide through education, capacity building and advocacy activities. Furthermore, its purpose provides an ideal forum for regional IP stakeholders to network, discuss and exchange best practices while learning from each other’s innovations. Furthermore, its role includes making policy recommendations to enhance patent systems worldwide.
